I'll piggyback on this. Please allow us to kick/ban a web-user in a public room. We like to keep our public support room listed on our website. Sometimes we'll get an abusive user who won't leave.

Yah I think this is great too, some kind of ad-hoc group discussion for things that just need a couple of minutes to go through. Rather than setting up a room just for the discussion.

This "Replace text emoticons" isn't working for mac app. I still see emoticons when I turn it off.. UGLY issue. I want my IRC-like emoticons back!

It will continue to invite those users who have access to the room. @all always targets all the users who show up in the list of users on the right side of the room.

Please add the ability to "remove" users from rooms. There are times for small discussions we'll invite a user into a room just so we ask them a question and then they never "leave" that room.

Me and my coworkers have been having a LOT of issues with the app. I frequently get stuck in "reconnecting" loops when trying to go into a 1-1 chat. People's online status does not update, and shows all the people in my chats as being on mobile until I sign out and back in.

Thanks so much for the quick and courteous reply. I understand these things take time, and am supportive, especially if we know you are still alive in there! :)

BTW, HipChat has become my favorite SaaS tool and I keep adding external colleagues to my account so that I can communicate with them. What HipChat needs more than anything else is the ability for users to own their accounts so they can share them across organizations. I'm not sure how the pricing would work for that but I'm sure you could find something fair. I think HipChat could sweep the internet and become used by 10x or even 1000x as many people if you did that.

Of course you may not want that either; look how much trouble Twitter had scaling at first. But I hope you do. :)

We're definitely considering these sorts of improvements in the future. Right now we're just working to clean up some loose ends and add obviously missing features before adding larger new functionality. :)

Room management options are currently available in our apps (just added to OS X beta last Friday) but will become available on the website soon as well.

While you are considering room types it would be really great if we could make persistent and ad-hoc rooms for more than 1-on-1. I frequently need to discuss a variety of topics with 2+ other people and having to name and manage that group on an ongoing basis means I can end up with tons of rooms we only use infrequently and creating a room is a pain and requires an admin. It would be great if I could just select a few people and then be given access to the chatroom for the intersection of those people to appear. Persistence across sessions is also vitally important.

Chat history is exposed through HipChat's API so you could write a "chat archive" page that pulled in the chat information for your guest room.

Look forward to "new pages for viewing and managing rooms on the website" as currently I can't find anywhere on the web when logged in, or in the app where I can edit the settings of a Room? -- e.g. change Private setting back to Open?

Perhaps chat history since guest access was enabled. But definitely not all chat history.

I would love to be able to control notifications by room: this room notifies me of every message, but that room only notifies me if I'm mentioned, and this other room never notifies me at all.
